The role of the sales professional has become more complex and more demanding than ever before, says Lorella DePieri, director of the Schulich Executive Education Centre’s Centre of Excellence in Sales Leadership.
“There’s no question that the level of complexity has grown. The requirement of a sales team, of a sales individual and a sales leader is nowhere near [as straightforward] as it used to be,” said DePieri. “They need to be, not only conversant and ahead of the game on their products [and services], they need to know their customer’s business, sometimes better than the customer knows their business themselves.”
